OKR Progress and Cycle Closing

OKR progress, pace-based health and KPI success levels are different indicators. At quarter end, review current data before changing the cycle's state.

Read progress correctly​

  • A key result's progress depends on its type and entered values; actual/target alone does not explain every type.
  • Objective progress is the weighted average of its own KRs. Child objectives do not automatically roll their progress into the parent.
  • Unit and cycle totals use evaluable objectives in scope and their weights. Draft/archived objectives are excluded.
  • Health measures whether progress is keeping pace with elapsed time. High progress may still be behind the expected pace.
  • KPI levels come from the KPI's own criteria, not from the OKR health calculation.

An unmeasurable or not-yet-started indicator may show “—”; do not interpret it as a failure score.

Review at cycle end​

  1. Open the cycle under Goals & Tracking → OKR Cycles.
  2. Review behind-pace and stale records in Health.
  3. Ask record owners to save their latest KR and initiative progress.
  4. Check strategic links in Alignment and, with access, unit/person results in Performance.
  5. Export the filtered Health rows as CSV if needed.
  6. Record outcomes and lessons in your team's meeting/note process.

Change cycle state​

Authorized users open the cycle's edit form from the OKR Cycles list and save a transition allowed by its current state. Cycle state, unit-plan approval state and objective status are separate records; changing one does not set them all to the same state.

  • The parent strategic cycle must be active before activation.
  • Only one OKR cycle of the same periodicity may be active; an annual and a quarterly cycle may run together.
  • Closed/completed OKR cycles block objective, KR and initiative writes, including progress updates.
  • Open an earlier cycle from the OKR Cycles list to inspect it. There is no separate “Reports → OKR History” screen to find.

Closing the strategic cycle also snapshots its report KPI usages and scores. A continuous KPI can still receive measurements through KPI Tracking without changing the closed report's snapshot. See KPI Tracking.

Before closing​

  • Are the company and cycle correct?
  • Have final updates been saved, and are measurements missing?
  • Have pending approvals and structural gaps been reviewed?
  • Is it clear who can see results and which records are confidential?
  • Are the next cycle's dates, owners and strategic links ready?
