Problem: I Cannot Create OKR

Problem: "OKR Create button disabled / OKR won't save"
Severity: High
Phase: PHASE 4

Quick Diagnosis​

✓ Step 1: What is the error message?
  ├─ "Please link to a Theme" → Theme mandatory (Go to Step 2)
  ├─ "Phase must be PHASE 4" → Wrong phase (Go to Step 3)
  ├─ "All fields required" → Missing data (Go to Step 4)
  └─ Other error → Go to Step 5

Solution 1: Mandatory Theme - "THEME NOT LINKED"​

Error: "Please link this OKR to a Strategic Theme"

Root Cause​

OKRs MUST be linked to a Strategic Theme. Theme was not selected.

Fix​

  1. Find the "Theme" dropdown in the OKR create form
  2. Is the dropdown open? Is it empty?
    • Empty theme list: Themes were not created in PHASE 3
    • Themes available: Select one
  3. Select a theme → Retry Save

What if there are no Themes?​

  1. Synthesis → Strategic Themes
  2. Click Create New Theme
  3. Create at least 3-5 themes (Market, Product, Operations, etc.)
  4. Themes saved → Go back to OKR create

How many themes should we create?

3-5 themes optimal
├─ 1 = Too focused
├─ 3-5 = Balanced
└─ 10+ = Diffuse, dilutes focus

Solution 2: Missing Phase - "NOT IN PHASE 4 YET"​

Error: "OKR creation only available in PHASE 4"

Root Cause​

OKRs can only be created in PHASE 4. The cycle is not yet in PHASE 4.

Check Cycle Phase​

  1. Context → Strategic Cycles
  2. What is the Current Phase on the Cycle page?
    • PHASE 1, 2, 3? → Advance to PHASE 4
    • PHASE 4? → OK (another issue exists)

How to Advance to PHASE 4?​

PHASE 1 → Complete (Mission, Vision, Org)
  ↓
PHASE 2 → Complete (Resource analyses completed)
  ↓
PHASE 3 → Complete (SWOT, BSC, Assessment positive)
  ↓
PHASE 4 → Ready! (OKR create enabled)

Which PHASE is stuck?

  1. Ask the Admin
  2. Complete the missing phase modules and workflow requirements

Solution 3: Missing Required Fields​

Error: "Please fill all required fields"

Checking Required Fields​

OKR Create Form - Required:
├─ ☑️ Objective (text) - Strategy statement
├─ ☑️ Owner (dropdown) - Person accountable
├─ ☑️ Theme (dropdown) - ⚠️ MANDATORY
├─ ☑️ Duration - Start/End dates
├─ ☑️ Key Result 1 (text) - Measurable outcome
├─ ☑️ Key Result 2 (text)
├─ ☑️ Key Result 3 (text)
└─ ☑️ Measurement - How to track (KPI link or manual)

Fix​

  1. Required fields are marked red in the form
  2. Fill each one
  3. Especially check Theme and Key Results
  4. Retry Save

Solution 4: Permission Denied​

Error: "You don't have permission to create OKRs"

Root Cause​

OKR creation is role- and scope-based. Typical create roles are ADMIN and STRATEGY_MANAGER. TEAM_LEAD create depends on feature/scope configuration.

Check Your Role​

  1. Platform → Users → Find yourself
  2. What is the Role?
    • ADMIN? ✅ Should have access
    • STRATEGY_MANAGER? ✅ Should have access
    • TEAM_LEAD? ⚠ Depends on unit-level strategy feature/scope
    • MEMBER? ❌ Read-only

If Wrong Role​

  1. Contact Admin
  2. Request role/scope review → Admin will update

Solution 5: System Error​

Error: "Something went wrong" / 500 error

Steps​

  1. Refresh page (Ctrl/Cmd + R)
  2. Try again
  3. Still failing?
    • Report to Admin
    • Attach screenshot
    • Check system logs

Prevention - Pre-OKR Creation Checklist​

  • Are we in PHASE 4?
  • Are Themes created? (min 3)
  • Is Owner defined?
  • Are Key Results measurable?
  • Is Theme selected?

Data Entry Tips​

✅ CORRECT OBJECTIVE:
"Achieve 50% revenue growth in Asia"
  (Clear, strategic, measurable)

❌ WRONG OBJECTIVE:
"Do our best" (Vague, unmeasurable)
✅ CORRECT KEY RESULT:
"Asia revenue = 50M USD (vs 25M current)"
  (Specific, measurable, tied to target)

❌ WRONG KEY RESULT:
"Increase revenue" (Too vague)
